Chess ("the app") is a chess app for Android: play computer opponents, play friends online, and analyze games with the Stockfish engine. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and how you can have it removed. It describes what the app actually does today.
Signing in is optional. You can use the app as a guest for offline games and analysis without giving us any information. When you sign in with Google, we receive and store:
When you play a friend online, we also store for that game:
Your information is used solely to provide the app's functionality: signing you in, creating and joining online games, and showing your opponent your display name.
Account and online-game data is stored using Appwrite Cloud, which acts as our infrastructure provider under its own privacy policy. Sign-in uses Google Sign-In, which is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Anyone who has an online game's invite code can join it while it has an open seat. Your opponent in an online game can see your display name and the moves of that game. Nothing else about your account is visible to other players.
To delete your account and all of your online games, open the app's home screen and tap "Delete account" - see Delete Your Account for what that deletes and how to request the same thing without the app installed. Games saved on your device can be removed individually from the game history, or all at once by uninstalling the app or clearing its storage.
Chess is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
If we change what data the app collects or how it's used, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above.
